Alright got the 74 running this weekend with a freshly rebuilt stock carb. The carb is tuned the timing is spot on and the engine keep running for 5-10 second after i turn her off.

So took her down the the local garage and had them adjust the carb more. Engine still runs on.

    Suggestions?

This motor was sitting for 5+ years, with the truck, but only 72k on it.

    Thanks

That is one though i just had. The throttle is sticking, but i suspect that the rebushed throttle shaft is just tight and the return spring is to weak to close off the butterflys. Ill have to test this in the morning.

You need to de-carbonize it. Either with a cleaner, or run water thru the motor (with it running at 3K rpm, and a TRICKLE of water)

    But yea, thats whats wrong.

I decided to read the owners manual for fun last night and noticed that the engine needed either 86 antiknock gas or 90 Octant fuel. Well the gas in the tank was 87 octant so i put in some 93 octant this afternoon and guess what, stops with no run on.

Chalk it up to a learning experience.

my corolla and my hilux did that, my corolla would run for no lie 30 seconds. I run 89 octane and it fixes it
