Drove it to restaurant today perfectly fine, even all the way to top of 1st gear. After restaurant, getting up to about 30mph (maybe 4000RPM's, so midrange), truck backfires (as if no ignition or fuel) and sounds similar to a 2step system. Does this also in neutral, revs up bang bang bang .1 second silence bang bang brum bang. You can also hear the ECU clicking I opened up my distributor and didnt see any superficial wear, but how do you justify when the cap needs replacement? Then I looked at the alternator ground (alt to engine) and the wire looks charred. I had a similar problem earlier on in the year when the alt ground was bouncing off the engine, but the engine ran fine on low load RPM's. I'm hoping to fix up that wire... and then, hoping my dist. cap doesnt need to be replaced :'[ So what are the other factors?
u can tell ur cap needs replacement from the black spots from bad arcing.....i would just do a complete tune up on the truck and be sure to fix the bad ground..thats prolly the main reason and causing the ecu to ground out and click...
