Ok, I have a 20r and It runs ok but it leaks oil. The whole engine is covered. I don't know where it's coming from. A part of me wants to power wash the engine, run it and see where it leaks from and replace individual gasket, or just spend 70 bucks on ebay and replace all the gaskets.. Unfortunately I've bought tie rods and header (has annoying leak up top)first. I guess what I'm trying to ask is there any common gaskets that go bad on these things?? It's my first hilux.

Just about everything can leak.. If your gonna do all of them you should do the timing stuff too. A good cleaner is dollar store oven cleaner! Warm up the truck and just unleash the can of oven cleaner, then rinse it off.. Works like a charm:waytogo:

Engnbldr has a good gasket set, don't remember how much but $70 sounds about right.

    oil leak

Mine was leaking out the circular plugs at front and rear of head. I mean spraying oil everywhere. But only going down the road.

Mines a 1980 20r I replaced valve cover gasket and the four grommets that go over the valve cover hold downs. I had them left over from a 22re head job I had just done. I didn't have those half circular plugs, so I put some FIPG around the old ones and re-used.

Big mistake.. same problem but not as bad. went to parts store ordered just the plugs and that took care of it.
