Have any of you guys had to blow emissions when you did a swap i.e 7mgte or 1 j etc? Or are most of you with swaps exempt cause of where you live? I only ask cause here in AZ im wondering what they'd say when it registers a 4cyl but they pop the hood and see a inline 6 or whatever you have....

Yup i had too. I took my truck to a local shop where i live and they said they would punch in the truck under is usual class. And run it as is with the 7mgte. They also wrote on the sheet that it was to low to drive up on the dyno and did a curb idle test. Passed with flying colors!!

I don't know AZ law but have done tons of swaps in California. Once I finish the swap I have to go to a state sponsored ref. From there they make a determination and either have me change something or pass me and put a sticker on the door jamb telling the smog inspector how to test the car. This system has a lot of flaws needless to say and a lot depends on the mood of the ref. I have gotten very well known by the refs and now have no problems but at first it was like pulling hair. It really is a roll of the dice. I hope AZ is easier.

I live in Ventura County. I don't do the swaps for other people as a business though. I can give you pointers on doing yours. The number one biggy is that any engine you are swapping in will need to be offered in the US in a production vehicle. If it was not you can forget getting it passed the refs. They are up on the JDM engines and know what to look for now. They even know what to look for on the 6MGE engines now.

What do you charge for the swap?

Hmm..thanks for the info guys. i have a brother that lives where emissions are not required but would hate to have to go through that mess and explaining to a cop if i ever got pulled over why my addresses dont match or somethin. Ill have to research a tad more and see what AZ requires.

i believe they will run it as is. as long as it runs well and has all the emissions stuff in place you should be fine. i live where there isn't emissions. and when i lived in mesa all my rides where 1966 and older. what swap are you planning?

was planning the 7mgte swap but would really like to go with a Buick GN swap just cause ive owned 2 and know what they're all about. we'll see how money goes though since things are pretty tight these days with mouths to feed..lol

To you AZ boys, do you know what they require at emissions as far as your exhaust exit goes? ive heard it has to be behind the rear wheels but have seen minis with it exiting right in the rear wheel well peeking out barely in front of the rear tire....id like to stay away from running it over the rear end if i can...IDEAS plz!!

i have seen fords with it coming out in front of the tire from the factory. i think the main thing is it has a cat, muffler, and can have the tube to test it hooked up.
