so tonight i was cruising out to a duddy's couse. when i came back out to start it the truck missed and shuttered the cab a little bit and after it started the dash whent dead! no buzzer, turn signals, voltage, revs, temp or oil and the battery light came on. found out the fuse had blown so i replaced it. go to start the truck after replacing it and the damn thing blows another fuse! so what do you think could be blowing this fuse.......... also, possibly unrelated but the electric choke engages in and out on random after it blows that fuse
Start tracing wires. something may have fell out, came loose, is exposed, etc.. start by identifying the fuse being blown and trace those first.
Definitely. Check the wires and see if they were accidentally cut enough for the wire to be touching ground. I blew 4 fuses to my driving lamps like that.
my cousin took his 94 civic 4dr down a really bumpy road after blowing multiple fuses. then the problem stopped. he had the dash issue too
If you got nothing good to say keep it to yourself. Hope you find out what the problem is dude. Sounds like something is shorting out somewhere but where do u start?
well, like i said... the odd thing is now the choke is stuck "on" full.......... its weird. im gonna run a few tests and see whats up. something just dont seem right for it to blow the gauges fuse, and stick the choke yea......... you obviously are not afraid of bad karma thats why yer sitting there mocking me
Have you checked the Flux capaciter? Seriously tho... Try unplugging the electric choke harness and see what happens...
flux capacitor's..................... fluxing. ok so here is what i did test/do. i unplugged the choke circuit. truck dies immediately and wont start after. plugged it back in it starts fine. just high speed idle results. something is up but i think it could be an isolated issue but i wont know untill i test the other stuff. found out today my battery is discharged and im thinking my alternator is not charging. im gonna go toss the battery on charge tonight and check to see if my alt is puting out anything. i think i cooked it from the constant high revs and super revvy take offs..... truck revs out real quick and that could have toasted the alternator. it is the original.
yup. dont mean it'll handle the rev's though and i think i just cooked it by the revving either or how hard it revs.... not sure. i gotta go test it tomorrow.
yea...... it was fine but, given the nature of my motor and how i have been running it, im not surprised its given out.
ok so further inspection i found what all stopped working. gauge cluster completely dead except for lights at night. turn signals are dead but not the 4 ways. backup lights.
found the problem guys. issue turned out to be a short in the backup lights. how i diagnosed? tested alternator and battery. turned out both were fine. when i bolted the alt back up to the truck i placed a new fuse into the gauge cluster spot under the dash (15amp fuse?) i dont know. i dont have the cover. when i placed it in, everything worked. revved it ran it in neutral and it was fine. was going to back it down the driveway and tapped reverse the truck almost died and i noticed the voltage meter in the truck pegged at a HUGE load. i immediately pulled out of reverse and then everything was fine............ i tried it again and tapped it into reverse just far enough to engage the reverse light swith in the tranny and sure enough a big load ran through the truck and did the same thing. i got under the truck, disconnected the reverse light switch from the tranny and lit the truck off again, placed it in reverse and no more issue. problem found. truck runs fine, no more blown fuses and i believe the culprit to be a worn through wire the runs across the top of the tranny exposing it to the trans housing and when the switch was powered, it ground itself to the trans housing. back in business!!
