I apologize in advance if this is the wrong section.

I'm looking into buying my first Hilux Surf and I found one for 4400 with "electric transmission problems". It's excellent condition besides that and I was wondering if anyone had experienced anything like this?

I contacted the seller and asked her about it and her response was, " Yes, it still drives, however when left in overdrive the 3rd gear "slips". There is no manual shift mode, but you can use the first and second gear settings to "shift" it. At a shop if might cost between 500 and 2000 to fix."

I'm a diyer and have access to any tools I need so I was wondering if anyone could give me more insight into this and if it is worth trying to fix myself?

Oh and here is the link for the Hilux.

    Thanks!

slipping isn't an electronics problem. you can try changing fluid/filter but figure on the damage being done and that'll only extend it's suffering.

Thanks guys, I decided to hold off in buying it and found another one for half the price in a little rougher shape on the outside, but it runs which is a plus!
