So I'm running electric Flexlite (pusher) fans on my truck and they are hooked up to a temp switch.

My issue is when the fans turn on I can hear the engine idle drop from the power surge. I have a inline fuse and its wired up directly to the battery. What am I doing wrong? The temp switch is from a 89 240sx (SOHC) and sits in the lower rad hose and acts as the on/off switch as the water gets above 180 it turns the fan on.

What do I need to do/add so that the engine doesnt surge like that?

    Thanks

Do you still have stock fan running off pulley? I had a Ford that did this due to the fact as my electric fans were pushing more than my clutch fan was pulling it made that fan lag and mess with tension of belt and pulley and caused engine to bog unless I was cruising freeway speeds

well your idle will drop a tad when you put an electric load on the engine at idle. The more load on the alt the harder it is to spin it, the more your idle will drop.

are we talking a few hundred RPM or just noticable by feel and ear?

the stock charging system doesn't exactly have much power to spare. A electric fan is a instant 15 - 25 amp load that taxes it pretty bad.

Make sure everything charging system related is working properly before anything. Do the the big three before you spend you money on expensive new stuff. This helped me with my electric fan quite a bit.

All stock fan stuff is gone.

Yeah its just a quick drop in idle and then its back it idling back to normal. Charging system is good to go . I just got a new battery and had the alt checked out a few weeks prior and it was fine.

ya i would say its normal, its just a load on the battery and the alt give it a bit of juice for a second and then alls good.

    mine does the same.

You ever hear of ELS (electronic load sensor) circuit?

no. i know the car is pre programed to raise idle when the ac is on and stuff like that, but ive never heard of a car with an ELS. When i test alts on the car and stuff i can really bog down the car when i start pulling 50-60 amps at idle...

is you electric fan mounted on the front or rear of your radiator?if its a pusher it should be mounted on the front or swap the wire's around to make it a puller if its mounted on the rear of the radiator.make's a big difference on the cooling temp.

Im reading up on it now and it seems as if i wired it to that circuit it can bump the idle up like it does for the ac but im not finding much info on it...

six... I dont have the stock motor any more so theres no room for the fans in the factory location. I do have them wired to run as pushers.

    I found these two diagrams

The schematic above will activate the fan anytime the coolant temperature is above the threshold of the thermostat. This means that the fan could continue to run for a few minutes even after the engine is shut off (on hot days). To avoid this, and set up the fan so that it can only run when the engine is on, use the schematic below instead.

ya those are 2 simple circuts for controling a relay with a thermostat. i personally would use the second one because i dont like having the control side of the relay also being wired into the power side for the ran. IF something were to happen i would have a second power source to manually power my fan off of to get me home if needed. ( this being a side of the road fix )
