Ebay Head Kit My truck is starting to eat oil and I've always had a lil white smoke come out on start-up. I figure its the valve seals. It also stumbles some at idle and I think it might be related. Im planning a cross-state trip and I want my baby 100%... so a rebuilt head and throttle body being completely cleaned with all new vacuum hose kits is exactly what the truck deserves.. I figure the price is pretty even compared to me dropping it off at my local machine shop. But this is my daily and I'd rather just swap heads in a weekend's time. All the reviews are happy and its shipping out of cali so I should be safe right?? But everyone cringes when I say "ebay" opinions?
eBay is a strong word I would use that money wisely and get u a engnbldr .com head his cast is far superior to that eBay choice and his prices are are top notch for replacement parts ., .. I strongly advise spend a little more and I mean a little and get u a head that will last.. Ive seen far to many cheap cast heads either come in the mail messed up or crack months after do to bad casting ... I wouldn't trust that head gasket in that kit as far as I could throw it
Yep. Use a oem head gasket. 50 bucks. I plan on buying an engnbldr head as well. That eBay head is a cheap Chinese re cast. And white smoke? That's not oil. Oil burns blue.
I agree on the head gasket, and would be way better off with oem. But as far as the head, I figured coming from cali it's just a recycled 22re head just machined and rebuilt. But then again... they dont have a core charge... so it could actually be a new cast head... that engnbldr head looks top-notch!.. but thats $350 for the head by itself... I still have to buy valves, cam, springs, seals, everything! so not really just a "little" more :-/ but i'd really HATE to be out in the middle of no where with a cracked head I just replaced.... it's a very tiny cloud that puffs out on start up and really only happens on a cold start. I dont know how blue it is, but when I saw that I just assume its a lil oil burning. I mean Im losing oil and its not leaking a drop, so its gotta be going SOMEWHERE lol
check out 22re performance.com, I got a new head from them this last winter for my runner. parts and service were great. to me it doesn't seem like theres any good machine shops out there. All I hear is horror stories.
haha i know them!! I follow them on instagram!! Those guys dont mess around, they do some seriously good work!
I wouldnt run that head personally. Seems too basic of an ad to be a performance brand. Engnbldr is a great place to get parts from. My pistons, timing chain, oil pump and bottom end bearings all came from them. I ran all felpro gaskets. They make really nice ones with a printed on layer of silicon to allow a dry fit which looks cleaner in the end.
You get what you pay for. might ship from cali but the parts are crap knockoffs from china, assembled in indonesia, boxed in mexico... cheap out and it will fail exactly halfway between where you were and want to be just as far from anywhere as you can be on a holiday when every shop is closed.
Very good point. I it was me and I needed a head, id find a good used one on Craigslist. Have the deck surface checked for flatness at a machine shop. Look closely for stripped bolt holes, missing exhaust studs and cracks between the water jacket and exhaust valves. I've bought 3 or 4 used 20r heads since hardly anybody casts them. I usually pay about 50-100 bucks. My last one I got on trade from 77yoter. Big pile of parts and a $20 for a ported head with cam. Keep your eyes open and you'll find something better than the eBay part, for much less money.
Yeah I'd totally be better off just running it how it is, rather than switch out cheap parts. I mean the truck runs GREAT and now that I see a lil dripping from the oil filter maybe its not eating as much oil as I thought. Im planning on taking it on a trip and wanted to have the truck 100% and not have to worry. But **** I dont have to worry as is, that truck has my back. that ebay head would have been a mistake
