    Does anyone have a line on a 7.5 differential in a a more highway user friendly ratio? I have the stock 4.10 in my truck right now, but would like to source a 3.56 or a 3.42. Thoughts?

    Yea not much of a chance that's a 7.5" diff if it really has 4.10's.

    That is how the code reads on the number plate.
    F292
    F=7.5 inch gear
    29=4.10 ratio
    2=2 pinion, open diff

    I don't pretend to know everything, but this is the information I found. It would seem to be verfied by the following:

    Source:Used TOYOTA PICKUP Rear Axle - Buy used TOYOTA PICKUP Rear End

    Year: 1980 Toyota TOYOTA PICKUP Rear Axle

    4x2 1/2 ton 3.42 ratio
    4x2 3/4 ton (4.11 ratio)
    4x2 1 ton, cab & ch (4.11 ratio)
    4x2 1/2 ton 4.10 ratio

    Thoughts?
    4x4 (4.38 ratio)

    Interesting, the only time 7.5" gears are usually found in 4.10 they are in the front differential of an 86+ 4 wheel drive truck.

    not sure the shipping is a deal killer, you have a 3.42. Why would you want to give that up? You would get low end grunt, but at a price at the pump..

    ya the shipping would kill.
    i think its actually a 3.5***
    there is no low end, its more for top end/highway driving.
    its been sitting around and i highly doubt i will be putting it back in my truck. i currently run a 4.30, but i wanna see if i can get my hands on a 4.10-11 or possibly a 3.90 --the best of both IMO, some low end and still can drive (somewhat) on the freeway

    i average 10gal every fill-up. around $30-35 for super.
