exactly how much can you take off of a stock toyota cam??
ive heard of grinding it to a 260 cam, but thats too small for me!
thought of this cuz i want to try and keep it with OEM toyota internals.
maybe use bigger stock valves from a different engine??

just buy a new re-ground from engbldr.com or another reputable 22re specialist..I've heard good things about Putney's as well. I was gonna buy my engine from them but they were out about 6 weeks, so thats a good sign that they are busy!

Theres a lot of variables to regrinding the stock cam, it would need to be profiled to find out how much material there is to work with because of wear and whatever the stock profile is to start with. They don't just grind to make it a 260. that depends on what it is to begin with as to what they make it into. Cutting the base circle is easy to gain lift, but the duration, lobe centers, ect is governed by how much material they have to grind on.
With stock internals, a 260 duration cam is probably more than adequate for a daily driver, bigger is not always better in choosing a cam unless all your concerned with is lumpy idle and poor driveability in the normal RPM range of a stock engine.

    yeah i realize that..
my cams in pretty good shape.. the truck was never really abused and the head looks really good for an old one..
i just wanted to know if the cam was like new, if not new, how much can be done to it??
i WAS thinking of going all out and getting a 300+cam for racing, but i think ill see what the stock cam can offer first!
