greetings! welcome to my build thread!

please read my introduction thread located here for a story of my truck that started in 1988

    https://toyotaminis.com/forum/threads/im-back-for-good-this-time.25443/

i hope you enjoy this journey with me to make l bring this back to its beautiful form! or at least close to it LOL!

what I remember, major work that was done was the head was rebuilt once and, I think, 2 clutch replacements when my dad had it and the nephew threw in a new carburetor. Everything else is original from 88.

I plan to restore this in my father’s name. slowly, but surely, it’ll look beautiful again! I was looking into replacement parts and they all seem pretty inexpensive. Ive been making a parts list and this is what I have found out looking over the truck.

this won't be a daily for me. that's what my 4Runner is for. I'll only use this once every other week or so.

Definitely dig the old photos of this truck, that is a cool thing to have. And to think that this truck has seen a life from film cameras to being in a digitally modified photo. I think that is pretty wicked.

thanks everyone! it's good to be back!

that MK3 supra was where i got the wheels from when i lowered the truck LOL!

i got another part dropped off today!

oh gah damn! maybe u should've gotten 3" instead of 3.5" LOL!

i won't be putting these on any time soon. should've bought belltech's drop shocks first. but i guess it doesn't really matter LOL!

also found my extra grill clips i had when i fixed the 4Runner grill!

got my buddy to cut the TRUST logo for the tail gate
    [IMG]

my center link, lbj's and power/keyless entry kit came in this weekend. just waiting for a few more bits to show up before i throw everything in. next I'll get stuff to reupholster the bench because that's a huge eyesore.

also stopped by the local yards and picked up a roof rack from a sienna. it's just sitting on the camper to check the size and fits pretty good. it's a little curved but it'll flex a bit to fit the flat surface. can't beat $25 compared to $200+ for a universal one. just needs a bit of paint and it'll be good to go!

You dont need drop shocks if all you're running out back is blocks

Is the 'trust' a vinyl or a stencil job? looks nice.

and yeah, drop blocks don't change the length of shock compression because it moves the shock mount location away from the axle. If they moved together with new drop springs or such, that is when a shorter shock is needed.

time for a little bit of history of The Trust Company LTD

Trust was founded in japan in 1994. they produced brands such as GReddy, GREX and GRacer. when they expanded into America, they couldn't use the name TRUST because it was already copyrighted so they became officially known today as GReddy.

since GReddy (or TRUST) doesn't make the GReddy DD exhaust for these trucks, I plan to make my own exhaust styled after it.

yes, it is a vinyl decal. I was going to put the TOYOTA logo on the back like how it was, but I think making the TRUST logo would be different. also, it'll go with my future plan with the exhaust I plan to get made. kinda goes with the 'oldschool' look. still about the same time period-ish.

i'm waiting for this guy to 'donate' me his roof rack from a 4runner. if I happen to get that by the end of the week, I might end up using that. if he backs out, then i'll get hardware to mount the Sienna rack.

I only got shocks for the front for now. i'll get some for the rear. I totally forgot that it doesn't change the height on the back when you use lowering blocks. i'm still stuck in that car mentality. LOL!!

Thought I recognized the logo! Pretty cool, GReddy huh; So you gonna turbo it? JK..but seriously. Just what I relate GReddy to.

Funny, I can't decide where/how I think my exhaust should go..but the blast pipe style is sweet. Love the history lessons!

*Edit* I like the look of the van rack, arched a little. A look I haven't seen, breaks up the cut aesthetic of these trucks.

*Another edit* oO racing stripe logo render?

I get a lot of props from the older tuner guys (like myself) that know what TRUST is. goes along the lines with Racing Sports Akimoto, HYPER Rev, Veilside, BLITZ, bomex, Do-Luck, ABflug, FEEL's, etc... are all from the same era.

LOL! no turbo. just a standard rebuild when the time comes. and maybe header... and open filter. that would be about it for performance mods.

super stoked for this weekend!! or maybe next weekend (4 day weekend) to throw all my parts in the truck. I just got my last bits today.

    so whats going in ASAP

    steering center link
    idler arm bushings
    front lower ball joints
    front belltech drop shocks
    rear lowering blocks
    power door lock/central locking

I got the power door lock system last week and, for the life of me, couldn't figure out why it wasn't working. I kept researching online and it said it needed relays. I accidently asked amazon for a replacement instead of returning and tried hooking it up the same way and to my amazement, it worked!!

gonna delete the interior door knob and keep the door lock cylinder installed, but disconnected. not gonna have door panels after the install because I plan to make my own door cards anyways. also gonna delete the arm rest/door handle and just use pull straps since they're so expensive for some gray ones. when I get my wood grain steering wheel, im going to a local wood-worker to make the door handles match the steering wheel.

just like how my dad had the wheel setup, i did some coloring to have white tire letters
    [IMG]

installed new exterior mirrors. had to drill holes in the passenger side since it was considered an option LOL! there not the greatest. image is a little distorted, but all i really need it is when i park or change lanes
    [IMG]

and i also got my period correct month registration sticker! gonna start restoring the license plate. gonna use my wife's die cutting machine to make stencils of the words and the sunset
    [IMG]

scored me a free 5th gen 4Runner roof rack the other day. looks better than the Sienna one IMO since it's more straight. the silver goes good with the TRUST decal so i might not paint it black. getting the crossbars right now before i drill holes

Wew, next do me! Just a thought on the rack: paint the sides and leave it silver on top? Ykwim? ..just a thot ( :

I didn't, wow, okay: the plate renewal..just wow!

Had no clue of those period tags; the stencil render...you are an artist. Avant even.

Keep slaying Coy, let's see those blocks in!
