I need to place my exhaust from the catalytic converter, muffler and tail pipe. Whats the most cost effective way to go about this? Big Al's gave me an estimate btwn 350-400, that seems a bit extreme for just a generic and near oem replacement. I was looking at a universal converter from flowmaster, and cherry bomb muffler and just 2 1/2tail pipe would that work for my truck, its an 84 single cab? Thanks for the help
I'd shop around that's a lot of cash although keep in mind the cat is we're there making money of you the muff and pipe ain't nuttin My advice would to be purchase your cat and muffler of your choice of the web save some money Have a diffrent muffler shop build u an exhaust Muffler places make there money on cats and mufflers specially cats sometimes highway Robbery Your local parts stores might have a few turbo mufflers and flows I'd prefer the turbo sound better in my opinion wool or fiberglass packed mufflers sound better on four bangers
If you have to replace your exhaust system, how is the time to improve the performance end of your ride! Air flow in & out is the very first step in doing this!! I recommend you consider headers & a little bigger tubing ,better flowing muffler & cat at this time!!You will not regret doing this ! Also the air filter, if all stock,just throw a K&N ,stock replacement filter in!!
thanks guys. i wish i could delete the cat altogether, but I live in the great commonwealth of Virginia and in order to pass inspection i have to have it. scrub88 i thought it was highway robbery as well. so can I roll with a universal cat or should i replace with an oem replacement? I found a couple of mufflers for about 69 or so bucks which is pretty good to me. truckaction thanks man I do plan updating my entire exhaust system just not now so unfortunately at this time the header will have to wait cuz this is my daily and i need to pass inspection. I have however replaced my air filter a month ago when I put on my weber carb. but that def can use some retuning.
Yea a universal cat will do or a high flow cat just make sure there of decent quality . And as far as piping size 2.1/4 would be fine for a bolt on or cammed truck a 22r isn't going to outflow that size u can go 2.1/2 but will cost a little more . As far as mufflers go . the 70 dollars can get u a good muffler
ight cool thanks. i think for about 150 bucks I can put together a decent lil setup. Are there any parts i need for installation like gaskets and the such. I found someone that can weld and install it for about another 150.
Na just hack off the old cat weld the new one on and go from there back all welded no leaks .. No need for removable sections unless you desire them
call mufffler king in newport news 757 244 1439 they do alot of custom work for rods and dizils and have done a few buddys hondas that are dumped and the pricing is very fair
Pretty sure LC's headers are 2.5'' & I used the same though out,along with there cat. In this state I will @ the next smog check( two years) use a cat that they list for the test only,than change back to LC's!
What are your resources? How bad is your old cat? I found that Pablo's cat flanges were rusted apart, but the cat itself seems okay. I was able to swap the entire exhaust out of my $500 parts truck (proving again it was a good idea), but I'm holding onto the bits and pieces. I think that with just some spare bits of pipe and the wire feed welder, I can make it all go again when the time comes. I bet with a hole saw, plywood blocks, and a hydraulic jack, I can make some basic bends in 2" tube.
