What's the easiest way to take off a core support. I plan on getting one from a 4runner to do the conversion an need to know the easiest way to do this
grind welds then reweld havnt done it with a toy but plenty of mazdas and cars. Did a focus conversion to a CRX also a integra conversion to a CRX and we just did that. Grinded the welds cut with a dremel rest of way through and welded it back on the other car.
For the donor vehicle I prefer to use a large standard drill bit - 3/8 or larger and just drill out all the spot welds. Having a chisel is handy if you have any that dont get drilled perfectly. Then use a spot weld drill bit to remove your current core, that way you have some backing metal to reweld all the spots. If you don't plan on welding the new one on, then drill both vehicles with a standard bit and bolt the new core on using the spot holes.
Damn ok is it hard? I'm gonna go to picknpull Saturday an do it I bought like a saw zall with a battery hopefully tht makes it easy
As long as you can tell what a spot weld is your battery doesn't die shouldn't take more than a few minutes if everything is already striped off the donor if using a sawzall be sure to cut out a few inches behind headlight cutout so you can drill spot welds later without worrying about ***** up the core
Doing the same thing this weekend man... Hopefully I can find a 4runner that isnt crucnhed on the front end.
Good luck this weekend! I can tell you that as of last weekend there werent any at either the Lynnwood or Arlington Pull a Parts. Lynnwood has a green 93 but I don't think the core is useable. You should seriously check Craigslist for those people parting out 'Runners. 2 months ago I picked up a mint 1993 core, bumper, valance, headlights, grill, and markers for $140 from a guy in SeaTac. Just my $.02
That's a killer deal.... I heard there's a yard just full of 10-15 4runners. We'll see even a rare 2dr which is what im after...
Well the yard had about 14 4runners about 5 were not wrecked in front and the cores are still good. Most of them where still complete front ends. So I walked the Yota section looking for the one that had matching paint all I excited I found two right next to each other. So I start to dissassemble the front and half way through I realize I forgot my drill and drill bits sitting in the garage. FAWK!!!! I will have to return another day.... SO SO WEAK!!! but I did get some interior parts for the 4runner so not a total lost. The yardguys told me 25 for the core support. So ill have to plan another trip down there. FYI Budget Truck Wrecking in Auburn is the place. If anyone wants to go down next weekend pm me.
Well I got mine today to so long to get it removed I cut about 4inches past the support itself an then my battery died an just beat the **** outta it with a metal steak an sledge hammer to get it off
Well wheres the pics? Come on poeple gotta have pics. Well congrats man and hope it goes on easyier then it came off
I kno I ****t up with no pics haha but nothin special just the core support. Haven't put it in yet maybe next weekend
