How safe is it to use a glass liquor bottle for the coolant reservoir? I have a Hennessy bottle i wana use but i dont want it breaking on me
it takes glass a huge amount of heat to fracture/melt from heat. google returns something in the realm of ~200°C to fracture from heat itself.
figure the most amount of engine coolant temp it will see is about 250* AT MOST......... if it does, you have bigger issues than the bottle breaking. find a way to wrap it in a rubber foam base and upper brace too.... should be fine.
if i wrap it in foam then i wont be able to show it off i want. Lol. Ima have to find some material to cushion it
Look back to the 50's and early 60's Chevys, they used glass bottles for window washer tanks and also bottles for holding extra washer fluid, some even had glass jars connected to a vacuum ashtray, they only used metal to glass bracketry with no problems.
use 2 hole pipe or conduit clamps. you can get them in metal and plastic from lowes or home depot. i used a 2" clamp to mount an oil pressure sending unit to my fire wall. you can get some pretty big ones too, prob up to 6" without a big issue
I think a flexible strap would be nice. hell, if you wanna empty it or something, loosen strap and pop, ready to do it in 2 seconds
