So I grew up as a dodge guy and migrated to toyotas after high school. We still have plenty of dodge projects, and we aren't afraid to stuff giant engines in tiny trucks...we have a '91 440 dakota .

So I have been wanting to small block a toyota. I am wanting more and more for it to just be in my daily and not some other project truck I have yet to even buy lol. The idea would be a 318 engine with a W series 5 speed. I can use V6 dakota bellhousing and other parts to mate the two together. Other than a pilot bearing bushing being custom made its pretty much a bolt together. Won't get into that too much now.

I know a 318 with cast iron intake, exhaust manifolds and full front accessories is about 600lbs. Swap to headers and aluminum intake and its down near 500 lbs. I'm okay with a 150-200 lb front end increase. The motor mounts on dodges are similar to the frame side of toyota trucks. I've seen them put into celicas. Dodge cars had front/mid sump oil pans that should work with the hiluxs steering behind the axle. They had tiny starters from the mid 80s on, and summit has cheap block hugger headers if long tubes wont fit. Plus there are lots of pretty good flowing exhaust manifolds on the 360 trucks, especially after some porting work. Not ideal but being rear dump they are a fall back option. The dizzy is in the back but is tucked to the block fairly tight, compared to a chevy. I already have an aluminum radiator, and can swap to electric fans if need be. Tomorrow I will take some measurements in the garage and under the hood to see how well things will fit. If I am missing anything point it out. I'm sort of brainstorming this out loud cuz I need some input.

Does anybody have any links to them in a toyota truck? 2wd or 4wd, any trans. Just looking for how they placed the various items. I'm trying to get things sorted out. Lets get some input on this. Questions are welcome, so are comments and ideas. Thanks guys.

Good luck with a 318, a 302 or even better was the 351 windsors conversion which were far more popular here as the 318 was a bread and butter engine and were more commonly used as boat anchors.
As we have strict laws in Australia compared to the US both these companies would have kits

302 does have some benefits over a 318, but I'm not a ford guy. A 318 can make plenty of power to move a little toyota around. Theyre simple, cheap, and I have a few in the garage I could pick from. I will have to measure things tomorrow and start making this happen. I wanna go faster. Want to keep up with our other race trucks.

I'm converting a 78 with a 1uz (work has been too hectic to post more pics but they are coming). These guys have done some measurements so you have a comparison. 1uz Dimensions. I had to custom the headers to get them past the steering box which I also had to move towards the outside of the truck by 20mm (0.8").

Are you just looking for more power?

Aren't we all? I have about 160hp with the 22r I built, but they top out about 200 hp. I wanna be able to keep up with our other V8 minis on the track and on the street.
