i know putting a 20r head on an early 22r block gives higher compression...
but would a lazer head give high compression in an early 22r block??

Lazer head won't work without some modifications

well my dad had this truck running strong until the rats chewed up the wiring..
would this mean he shaved something??
if so its probably the head..
what would you think the CR would be with this combo??
or with the stock 22r head??
its facking hard to find a 20r head here..
and if you do the price for 1 would be...:doah:

Going a 22R hybrid gets you a little more compression. (.2 pts IIRC)

The power does not come from the compression; although the domed 82-83 pistons definatly help over a straight 20R, but rather from the way way better flowing intake ports and manifold.

22RE heads have nothing on the 20R head as far as the intake ports are concerned.

Just post pics of what you got. And the stamping on the DS of the block. :waytogo:

Shaving the head is no good on a OHC motor (most of the times :waytogo:)

shouldn't the exhaust holes on the lazer head be pear shaped?

^ 83-84 motor... Definetly not a lazer block at all and there is no such thing as a lazer head...

    it is.

what we mean is the head that came from a lazer block..with the pear exhaust ports..

just axd my dad about the motor and he said that they just slapped it on!
    no machine work at all..

i doubt ill find a junked 20r head on island or fo cheap, so what will be my best bet??

find a pre lazer era head or will i be fine with what i got??
whatever head i end up with will be modified(large valves, dual springs, big cam, porting...)

    Example of 85+ head:

Your best bet if you can't find a 20R head is... Port the sh*t out the one you got and install bigger valves with dual valve springs. Shave the head for more compression and get an adjustable timing sprocket to keep the valvetrain timing inline...

    sounds cherry!
so will i need a shorter timing chain??
it looks like those heads were missing alot of material:eek:

    that would be great!
im kind of low on cash but i think if you find a good priced head then well be in business!!
hope to hear frm you soon!

So to clear it up for you...You have a complete 22R thats 82-early 84.

A 20R head will bolt on to that with a stock chain, use a 22R headgasket kit and buy a 20R intake manifold gasket.

That looks like a stock chinese head. No visible TEQ stamps :puke:
THIS is missing alot of material.

early 22r block with a lazer era head..
would i need a dual timing chain cover for the 20r head???

i can really see a difference in how the combustion chamber is shaped in those head pics vs mine..
mine are more circlish where as these have smaller CC.
