Any of you happen to have any idea what the "fair market value" is for our pickups (72.5'-78')? Especially anyone in California.

I'm assuming what we might value our trucks at, may not necessarily be what the insurance companies value them at.

Trying to decide if it's worth adding on the comprehensive insurance to my policy for the 72' Lux, and what they might actually deem it's worth (God forbid) it get stolen or vandalized.

yep, unfortunately outside of this small inner circle they really aren't anything special...

i wouldn't expect them to try and repair the truck if it was wrecked or vandalized since the parts just aren't around. and if it was stolen i'd imagine the check wouldn't cover anything more than a craigslist replacement.

but on my 79, the difference between liability and full coverage was like $3 a month. cheap price to pay for a new windshield :D

I have Specialty Insurance on my truck, street rods and customs through Sneed Insurance. They are all appraised and actual cash values are stated, no deductable. The rates are reasonable and all other insurance values required by the state you live in are included. They do not insure your vehicle as a daily driver but use restrictions are not bad; up to 2500 miles a year. Example of cost: Toyota truck $50,000.00 appraised value costs a little over $600.00 per year in Pennsylvania.

Yeah, you're right. The difference on mine was just about the same, so I went ahead and added it on with zero deductible.

My State Farm agent (6 yrs running) said that I can even do full coverage, and basically, if ever, they would take into consideration both "fair market value" as well as any receipts I can produce in helping what should be paid out.

Of course it's still never going to be cent for cent what you put into the truck, especially your own blood n sweat, but if you're diligent in your record keeping, it will be better than what you might typically get.

I checked around a couple insurance company's. Some said I can't even get comprehensive because of the age. So I went w/ the cheapest, esurance. Liability only.

I think some said the value of my truck was only like $200.00 or so.
