Well here is my truck the day I got it. Purchased it for 900 with 215k on the dash. It's also an automatic wich is kind of nice. Plans are to keep it inexpensive but cool. I want to lower it about an inch or two and get some rims wich there are plenty of good looking cheap rims in this bolt pattern on my local craigslist. I also want to swap in ac. All the research I've done says it's not hard but havnt found anybody that actually done it. So here's what I've done in the first 3 days of owning it so far. Removed the graphics. But there is a lot of residue that will not come off. So I'm not sure how to take care of that but it still looks better. And my dad said if I could find the wireing harness to his old blaupunkt I could have it. So about 2 minuets in the garage and I have a new stereo. And that's all I've done so far. I'm also going to be getting some rear speakers and at least an 8 inch sub. Those 4 inchers in the dash have absolutely not mid to lows.
Thanks. I tried some goof off on the under side of the hood and it went thru paint in about 2 seconds. I soaked the graphics residue in goo gone and that did a number on it but there is still some there. And where I buffed it to get it off its realy shiney. So I need to get a buffer to make the rest match. An I may have the camper shell sold tomorrow.
At your local parts store where they have all the paints, sandpapers, grinders and all that... There is a wheel that looks like a really thick cut off wheel made of rubber. That wheel is used to take off graphics from cars without ruining the paint. They aren't cheap but way worth the price.
A guy stopped by the other day to buy the camper shell but when we unbolted it and slid it away from the cab I found out it has a rubber gasket that snapped around the slider window and he had a solid. So he passed and it was too much of a pain to bolt it back on so I took the camper off. Now my truck looks like a truck. I do have an aluminum cross bed tool box that I was considering painting black and putting on but don't think it would look good on a lowered truck. So I'm just holding on to the box for now.
There are a couple members that have tool boxes in their bed. All depends on the look you're going for.
Well I want to do a ball joint flip drop the rear to match and get some 18s. There are a lot of good looking used rims off "tuner" cars that I like. Then tint the windows, remove the rear bumper and paint to match the valance. I think id be able to pull off a low profile box but not a standard hight one, wich is what I have.
No I'm up in NorCal. Sacramento/Bay Area. There seems to be a lot of Interest in the shell but not too many people coming thru.
Just got the truck smogged and now I'm sitting at the dmv to finally get it in my name. I think its funny I removed stickers, camper shell and installed a stereo before it's even in my name.
I have a crossbed toolbox on mine. My truck is still stock height but I plan to lower it but still keep the box. It is such a convenient, lockable "trunk" that I think it is worth the loss of "coolness factor", if any (I don't think so).
I've seen some trucks that had tool boxes that were still cool. Here's one member in particular's truck. Hope he doesn't mind
Sold the camper shell yesterday and also ordered my mirror. I also removed my rear bumper today. Now I'm trying to figure out what color I want to paint the stock steel wheels while I save up for some used rims.
I'm kind of thinking bronze. I do want to eventually get bronze 6 spoke wheels but not sure how long untill I get those. I like black rims but I don't want to make a mini version of my f150. I kind of like the idea of a rally car look, but a truck.
