Some 89s got cables and some converted to electronic mph gauge if your looking to find wich one you have you can pop the cluster off look n the back and should see a little nub sticking out for the cable connection ...and or the cable connection on the trans I believe is on the driver side and will be large about size of a half dollar coin ... .is that what your referring to ?

Ok so i pulled my dash and there was no nob to any cable
went under to look at my trans and only saw connectors on
on the trans so im guessing it runs to a relay?

Not at the moment sense the trans doesn't have the cable hookup .....the short cut I can see at the moment is leaving the ecu hooked up and finding out wich wire feeds the speedometer and going from there ... In the aftermarket area ..gauge area ..But I dunno haven't come across this before if you leave the ecu connected will the speedo work ..? I'm sure you'll have check engine light but that doesn't matter on a carb motor
