Just wondering if anyone knows for sure if I can just use my original 2wd bumper brackets with a 4Runner bumper/valance? I've read conflicting reports.

I was not able to use my 2wd brackets on my 91 xcab when I put a 95 4 Runner bumper on. Someone else may have made them work, but not me.

Stock 2wd brackets will work but you have to cut the part where the bumper bolts up and move it to the opposite side of where it was. So lets say the tab angles out towards the wheels, you have to cut that part off and weld it so that its closer to the center of the truck. And you do this for both sides.

Hope this makes sense, i did this on mine and it worked fine. Bumper wasnt tweaked either so i didnt even have to use the smaller brackets in the wheel well

I have a 90 with 92 bumper and valance...i used the 4runner front bumper brackets but kept my stock brackets for the sides near the wheel wells...some people say they had to change the cornerbrackets but it worked fine for me.....looks weird unless u get 4x4 fenders...i still have my 2wd fenders.

I think I got your drift. Thanks for the info. It'll save me a little money.

Well, I gave it a look today. I measured and looked at this and that. I even swapped sides of the brackets instead of doing Jetas' method. Swapping bumper brackets would get you nearly there but you would also have to grind the support flat and possibly rebuild it on the other side.

Also the brackets don't exactly fit right on the bumper itself. The bolts will go through the holes but it will bottom out a little funky. It wasn't something I wanted to go through with so I ordered a set of new aftermarket brackets for $35 for the pair.

One last question: Do I have to get "4Runner" side brackets as well or will the 2wd ones fit?
