Filed under: Recalls, Safety, Lexus, Toyota From the "things that should probably already be there" file comes the announcement that Toyota will be installing brake override systems in response to recent incidents of runaway cars. Toyota North America president Yoshi Inaba told Automotive News that the system will force the engine into idle if it senses the driver is trying to apply the brakes unsuccessfully. The Toyota Camry and Lexus ES350 will be the first models to get the new system, with installation beginning this month. Toyota's effort follows on the heels of a massive 3.8 million vehicle recall to reshape and replace accelerator pedals. The automaker is attributing reports of runaway cars on floor mat interference with the pedals, though the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reportedly remains suspicious of other contributing factors. If you feel like your cars gas pedal is stuck wouldn't you just throw it into neutral or shut it off maybe. Maybe it's just me but that would be my first reaction
remember...stupid people drive into walls and off cliffs because they dont even know what pedal they press.
ya thats wat i did wen i was driving my cousins integra. the main vacuum line off the back of the manifold popped of and the engine revved straight up to 6k so i shut the bitch off. you would think more ppl would have common sense
Damn ithough I was gonna get hated on for sayin that haha. But first reaction would be anyway to stop it like shutting it off or neutral
lol, our 22re's are already setup to kill the injectors when the brake is applied and the engine is over an idle speed! guess they should have held onto that technology...
I agree with teh floor mats. whenever i drove out somewhere open, i depressed the brakes a bit with foot on throttle. no signs of lowered power...
