I have a 1988 toyota pickup EFI, but it just got totaled and now I found a 1987 4runner with a bad motor also EFI. I wanted to know what your thoughts are on swaping the bodies. I can get the 4runner for 500. The major difference is 4runner is manual and the truck is auto with shifter on the column. I thought it would be cool and I know it has been done before. The reason the truck was totaled was because of a hit and run on the bed nothing really bad. Also the trucks body is just ****. Huge dent on the passenger side and tweaked core support. Let me know what you think, good or bad.

Just swap the motor into the 4runner.

if you do a search on here for the word runner you will find a couple build threads where they put a 4runner on 2 WD frames

I would swap the motor if I want a 4wd runner, but I dont I like my lowered truck. I have seen one build thread with a second gen runner swap. I have seen picture of the swap I am talking about but no build threads on here. What do you all think about the amount of work. I know the frames are the same length but are the body mounting points in the same spot. The trans linkage I think I would just go to the junkyard and get one out of an auto and cover up the transfer shifter spot.

You have 3 options, fix the wrecked toyota pickup, buy a new toyota pickup and dont worry about the 4runner or buy the 4runner and put the motor out of your pickup in there. My opinion is to get a new pickup and use the wrecked one for parts.
