its not to hard, but alot of work, there are tons of tech articles on body dropping. check out the tech section on http://www.minitruckinweb.com i know there is one on a yota (i think it was a 93) and seth did one on a mazda that is very helpful.
My first body drop was on a 93 reg cab. It isnt too bad just a lot of little tedious details. If you have specific questions I have done several body drops on these style trucks. If you check out street trucks there is a tech article on a 94 toyota reg cab that me and a buddy did at cando. Street trucks is covering the whole build from the frame up. The truck is body dropped to the rocker with 20's, a/c and heater. This months issue is final touches on the frame and next month starts the body drop.

I'm going to catch hell for this.... I never understood the purpose of a body drop and why you guys do it. To me I think it is ugly and kind of pointless. Is the sole purpose of a body drop just for certain looks? James

we do it for the same reason hot rod guys put big blocks in model A's. it just plain cool, even if its pointless, like a big block.
that and it looks retarded when there is like 4 or 5 in between the body of the truck and the ground it just looks better
So very impressive Okay recap. I looked at those pics and realized that s*i* is pro. That is a lot of work. It must be nice to have a group of people to work on one truck and get 'er done quick. I am alone with my truck when I work on it. So what is the purpose of a Z'd frame? Do you have to do this when body dropping? Can you just cut and drop the cab? How would the steering shaft be effected?
z A frame z on a toyota is when you raise the section of the frame the engine and suspension are mounted to. The crossmember and lower control arm mounts hang below the rest of the frame (also referred to as scrubline). When you Z the frame you cut it at the firewall and at the radiator support and raise the section in between. This will allow the truck lay flat if it is bagged to lay frame. The Rocker panels on a truck that lays frame will still be around 2.5 inches off the ground. A bodydrop, or channel, will bring the exterior of the truck closer to the ground. Traditional is when you cut the floor out and lower the cab around it. This decreases headroom and space between the dash and floor. If your a big guy you may want to look into channeling or "stock floor bodydrop." A stock floor bodydrop is when you replace the frame rails between the firewall and back of cab with 2x3 tubing which is shorter to bring the cab down. However you will most likelly still need to redo the trans tunnel. Also if you Bag, Z, and bodydrop you will need to lower the engine mounts if you want a stock hood. Sorry the Novel, Ryan
That toyota took us about 3 monthes. There was two of us working on it most of the time. It is a lot of work to do it right. I would recommend z'ing the frame if you would like to keep your heater and a/c. It also helps save room inside the cab and helps protects the rockers. If you dont z the frame and lay the truck out on uneven ground it will tear the rockers up. without a z the front wil be around a 3" drop and the back will be about 2.5"
Z Is it possible to keep my heater, drop the body(traditional, no Z), and use a cando bolt on reverse 4-link with bags? That way my 4.5" (Eibach,BJFLIP) static drop will remain and keep the front up. That way how the rocker sits will be safe(being that the front of the cab is lower)??
i say just z it, its easy. once you had the back bagged, it probably wouldn't be long before you would want the front done. and you probably wouldn't notice the truck is body dropped if the rockers never touch the ground.
