It turns out i have a blown head gasket and radiator leakage. i was driving down the road, when i noticed white smoke coming out of my exhaust when i accelerated, the engine soon locked up and never started again. my question is, how severe is the damage after that? do you think my engine can be rebuilt after getting locked up? if so, what do i have to replace. id rather spend money on upgrading parts then getting a new engine. would it be that i need a new head? im looking at the LC stage 5 head, what other upgrades on my stock engine would i have to make it order to run a stage 5? im trying to come up with a build, and would appreciate the advice! thanks!
maybe it just bent the rods? my wife put our mustang thru a puddle and sucked water in the motor. it bent the rod so all i did was replace one rod.
you have to take it apart to see how bad the damage is. for the money the stage 5 head will cost you you could build a stage 3-4 motor locally at the machine shop.
If it hydraulic locked while driving it could bend rods, but if it locked up after sitting and trying to restart it may be just the blown head gasket allowed the cylinders to fill with water so you might be OK with just fixing the gasket and cleaning/flushing the water/oil mess before running it again. Stage 5 head on a stock engine is a bit overkill, what would you need on your stock engine to run one? you would need more compression, a lot more fuel, a lot more camshaft, big exhaust, more spark, not much stock left when your done building to take advantage of the stage 5 head. If the engine is full of water don't let it sit for long or rust will have its way with it.
If you're going to spend that type of money you might as well do an engine swap to get your moneys worth. 2jz maybe?! LOL But if you want to keep a 4cyl in there you might want to swap in a 2rz or 3rz. You can make good power with these tacoma motors!
