anyone here installed or messed with bigger torsion bars for these trucks? i hate how badly these torsions sag and need constant adjustment.... so ive been looking into getting the torsions that all the 2wd off-road scene guys use to crank in lift that seem to retain the lift..... what i figure is if i just leave the torsions at low adjustment, it will stay low but have a greater spring rate, not need a whole lot of pre-load to retain ride height in other words. this should also make it to where i wont need to constantly readjust them either so what do you guys think? from what i can see downey, sway-a-way, and forget who else also makes them in a 22-25mm bar set. i think ive even seen em up to a 30mm size set
i really want new t bars and antiroll bars.. there is a track in Kansas, heartland park i think, i got invited but my truck is definetly not prepared for a road course, i need a roll bar, different rims and tires, brakes, fluid changes, etc etc but stiffer and lower suspension would be great!
i have found bigger diam. bars before, check ebay and search the net..but i would have to look agian to find some...
So what's the gain in getting 25mm sway bars? What's the improvement? Here are some for sale on CL, not sure if this is a great price or anything but... http://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/pts/1003618768.html
yea, i seen those but theyre a bit on the pricey side. you can et the same one's from downey damn near new. the thing about bigger diamiter bars (from what ive read and understand) is that they are made to retain the preload tension you put on them. being thicker bars, they tend to sag less since they have more "meat" per say on them. with that also comes a stiffer spring rate but im not sure how much more exactly. what ive come up though "in theory" they should give way better spring rates than stock either way. since they are meant to hold up to off-road abuse with bigger tires, this should give better, firmer, more controlled "compression" of the suspension's cycle. coupled with good shocks this should be the hot ticket just waiting on some funds in order to try this out. the rear of my truck is already set up nice with the 3" belltec drop leafs, beefed taco's 3" steel blocks, and the air shocks set to ~85psi another issue im going to tackle is the sway bar set. i will be going to either a bigger belltech, or addco sway bar up front as well as either company for a rear sway bar. this should make the truck REAL stable. attop of that my plans are to also re-bushing the whole front end (strut rod's, UCA's, LCA's, and all the sway bar bushings). this should firm up the handeling as well.
I have a set of the most expensive torsins available but just cant bring myself to put them on my lowered truck, they are the sway a way 300m torsions they retail for 600$ I have the white sway a ways on my truck right now and seem to do fine but I havent taken it to the track to tune it yet, if i get up there next month I'll bring them with me and see what the preload is like when they arent cranked on very tight.
belltech sway bars fit like complete utter shiat. they hit the tranny, front shocks and the gas tank in the rear... I also have the 25mm sway-a-way bars and they they extra stiffness is definitely a positive on a lowered truck.
I run Quickor bars, thicker & chrome molly spring steel. These are great bars, but the company is no longer. The owner still makes them out of his garage. And yes they make a difference!!
I've been running the Sway-A-Way bars for over a year now. They installed very quickly, just like stock and once I set them they haven't sagged at all. They do run a claimed 30% stiffer, but to be honest, I never really noticed. Sway-A-Way: two thumbs up.
im still in search but i think i have a lead on some just north of me. imma see how to get em down here...... anyone near the victorville / apple valley area here in cali that will be coming down to SD any time soon?
well, i finally got my set of saw's and man did it make a differance first off i installed a set of bilstein hd's........ they amazed me soon as i put em on and whent around the block. i have to say 90% less rubbing everywhere i went. was so impressed i just drove around town for a half hour just to drive installed my saw's today and......... holy mother of yota!!!!! i swear it felt like a new sports truck!! amazing the difference between the two upgrades..... im still in near misbelief i still rub slightly and get some body roll if i toss the truck around hard but thats all about to change as im also getting new Energy suspension poly bushings tomorrow and should have most if not all of them in by tuesday another sweet treat is that i picked up a complete rear sway bar set off of the back of a 89-95 4Runner. gonna try and hybrid this in with a few modifications to the axle and frame
