been running toxic shocks for a couple years now and was wondering if there are better options? I have chassis tech front spindles and some torsion adjustment with 4" blocks in the rear.
could look though the kyb catolog to try and match up a set of short shocks... i would run monomax shocks if available.
I'm running kyb monomax's on my 85. djm lca's and bj flip. with 3" belltech leafs. Loving them! Still road awesome even with a bed full of tree branches from the ice storm we had in TX.
I've been looking into Monomax's but I'm not sure if I should get the stock replacements, 565030(front) and 565028(rear), or find shorter ones from a different model vehicle that will fit. I'm on about a 4/4" drop with bj flip and torsion adjustments up front and a 4" angled block in back(working on notching). Need replacements to get rid of the super sloppy original factory shocks.
You dont need shorter shocks for the rear if all you have is blocks. When the gap between the upper and lower shock mount come closer together then consider shorter shocks. Front end id definitely suggest shorter shocks if you start messing with the torsions.
Im shooting for DJM LCA's and Spindles in the near future. My torsions will be raised again in a few months hopefully so it shouldnt be too much of a problem getting stock length ones til those go on right?
You don't NEED shorter shocks for the front or the rear. If you haven't made changes to the actual available travel of the suspension up front, the stock length shocks will cover everything you can throw at them. There are no limitations internally and a shock without bypass tubes reacts the same anywhere in it's travel. Jetas covered why the rears don't need to be shorter. If you need different valving than stock, buy suitable bolt in replacements.
Like I posted earlier, I'm running the KYB Monomax and love them. They are the stock length which works fine with the Spindles, LCA and bj flip.
Thanks for the info guys. I semi had an idea on what I've been reading through all the posts that I had found on shocks. It was getting overwhelming for me since it gets difficult to grasp for me from just reading it online and not being able to visually see it in person or through pictures. You've all helped me tremendously.
