I got a '92 ExtraCab out of Craig's List tonight for $150. It'll have to be towed because the tranny is pooched.

I have a W55 tranny from my '86 parts truck. I have the clutch/brake peddle assembly, a master cylinder (I'd have to get a new slave cylinder) and I could probably re-use a flywheel from another engine. I'd have to get a new clutch and pressure plate.

Anyone done this? Swap a W55 in where there was an automatic? Other than cutting a hole for the stick and the clutch peddle linkage, are there any major hurdles?

Or should I just find another auto transmission and get it fixed for now, drive it, and go from there?

Find ironnoms build in the 89-95. He did the 5 speed swap.

I've helped do this swap.Drive shaft lengths are different so you need a xtra cabs manual drive shaft.I can't remember exactly but the mounting plate for the manual trans might be different also so If you get a donner trans grab that plate also.Besides the hole for the master and the whole for the shifter you will also need the tubing for the clutch master to the slave.I think that's about it.

Hmmm. So I wonder if I'm lucky enough that one half of the new truck's shaft plus the other half of my parts truck's shaft will be the right length? I'll have to find the right manual and do some measuring. Otherwise, I wonder if it's cheaper to have a shaft modified rather than buy a new one and pay shipping....

Then there's the clutch/neutral cut out switch, but it sounds like that doesn't go through the ECU, so I can deal with that wire.

If you need a switch I have an extra. Looking forward to the swap
