orite well i was planning to flip my bj and i was looking online and i found out that they have spacers to lift up the truck....i was wondering if anyone has tried to do there bj flip and throw in a spacer so it can drop like 2 or 3 inches more...any idea
just snik in some washers inbetween the braket and the nut so that they are in between the a-arm and the lil braket with the nuts welded to it i did the same to my truck will post some pics up for u later or just pm me so u can remind me
Here is one type: Toyota 2WD/4WD IFS Front Ball Joint Spacers for Pickup, 4Runner and T100 I don't know what would happen if they were used for drop instead.
Makes sense in that link for the lifted application. For lowering it would be on the bottom BJ and would just do the job of drop LCAs but in a sketchy manner
Totally agree ^^^^ But they would need to be custom made,4x4s are a 4 bolt pattern and the lowers, well they're 3 bolt. The spacers in a lifted 4x4 work very well but the weight is pushing down and in a bj flip it would be pulling up.
ive run the flipped b/j for years now....... never had an issue before, or yet to hear from anyone who has. (given how well of a job you do at assembling the suspension will determine if it lasts or not) as for wheel spacers, same thing. ive run em, never had issues both on my 4x4 4runner and street trucks....... then again, every case varies. it pretty much comes down to personal opinions on weather its safe or not, effective etc......
Shimming the BJ with a few spacers is cool. But hell a 2" spacer seems unsafe. I get what ur sayin tho SD
Wouldn't that mess with your bump steer and squat antisquat? Unless you shimmed both top and bottom but that would just give you a jimmy rigged drop spindle.
there's a few ways you can look at it as i said. in the end, its your call on what you deem safe, or otherwise good to use. im not gonna tell you that its not possible to snap a balljoint if done.... but balljoints snap due to misuse or bad wear/stress etc. when i set mine up on my truck, i had drop arms, stiffer torsions and a drop spindle on top of all that and i abused my truck fairly hard. me personally i never had issues witch will not guarantee someone else wont. then again ive also done this to other peoples trucks and they have had trouble free use since. as for bump steer, squat, and camber issues, ive not run into any of this except for one truck that already had an issue with camber to begin with. from anyone thats had this mod done through me, ive not heard about any odd wear or funny feels to the trucks after leaving here. so i guess, for the mean time it still seems to be an effective, and structurally safe means to drop the truck. as mentioned earlier, its your call to deem it safe or not to do.
I made my own pattern in autoCAD and had a friend cut them from 3/8" aluminum on a waterjet. Just needed a little filing and it fits perfect PM me if you want the autoCAD file to make your own.
