    Hi
I have two problems that maybe someone can help me with.
    #1
I show a code 71 which the book says is a egr problem. I took it off and it was too far gone so I got another at the junk yard ( the guy at the junk yard that I know checked it first) but it still is not working. Anyone know which switches to check and what the measurements should be.

I get very poor gas mileage 19 from 28. I check the air flow meter that sits on the air filter box. Book says 200-400ohms on E2 and VS. Mine only reads when I tap on it and it measures all over the place. I sprayed electronic cleaner on the connections but it did no good.

The meter is about $249 and $125 at the junk yard but I would hate to buy one for nothing seeing that I can not return it.

The cat was changed to pass smog. I know the egr was not working when he smogged it. The only thing I can think of is that the smog guy who does work for the guy at the junk yard fudged the test and got readings from another vehicle so it could pass.

    Thx for any help

Vacuum on the intake manifolt is a steady 23

There are quite a few things that can effect that code. I've had it on mine for over three years now and have given up on finding the problem. I'm like you and didn't want to shell out the bucks to buy another AFM just to find out that it wasn't bad.

    Have you checked the TPS?

Although I don't know how it will work with emissions tests, I am currently researching and planning to buy the MegaSquirt II engine management system. For about $650, I can replace the whole Toyota system except for the ignition, and do custom tunes for power or fuel economy.
That includes an assembled ECU, wideband O2 sensor and controller w/gauge, and the intake air temp sensor.
I can then remove ALL of the Emissions crap and the AFM.

    Just a thought.
