locate a friend to help, take the coil wire off the dizzy, if its a male end that sticks out a little hold it very close to a ground point, but leaving a little air space like 1mm. a bolt on the valve cover or some other metal part of the motor like a bracket, get your friend to try to start the motor, you should see it sparking fairly bright.

if you do its not the coil, and plug that back into the dizzy, if not it still may not be the coil but the ignitor, points if you have them, the distributor eletronics could have gone bad ect. so dont go tossing a coil just becouise of no spark. some autoparts stores have a book behind the counter that shows how to test coils with a muti meter, unless a member can chime in, anyhow ask your local store if they can test your coil if so bring it up to them.

if you have spark and still no start, do the same thing but with a spark plug wire, it should spark 1/4 as often but just about as bright, if you have spark then. check your plugs, could be done, if you havent changed them in a wile it wouldnt be a bad idea to just pick up a new set anyhow same for cap and rotor if it hasnt been recent.

im sure i missed some stuff but that will get you started.

Get a multimeter and check that the resistance of the primary and secondary coils are in spec.

Then perhaps he should tell us more... like the year and type of engine hes got. Not going to be able to provide any specs for him otherwise.

thats why i simply suggested he take it to the local autoparts store where they usually test coils.

its probably his headlights that are stopping his motor from starting.

something stupid I did, check the wire that conects the distributor. I left mine unhooked and wasted a day trying to correct the problem.

no the ignitor is different then the coil, and the msd blaster 2 i think is a coil. if your junk yard sells em for 16 bucks buy em all and sell em here in socal, they are 150 here
