my friend has a 92 pickup with manual steering. he did the ball joint flip and the other day a bolt got caught on the lower control arm and locked his steering. he freed it up, but i was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem
I've heard of rim clearance issues with BJ bolts but never with steering. Do you know which bolt it was?
i'll have to take a pickture. the bolt that got caught doesnt look like it goes to anything. its just threaded in a hole
i took another look today and the bolt was a stopper for the steering so you dont bend the backing plate. we ran it all the way in and its good now
ahhhhhhhh OKAY. I see what you're talking about now. Its that bolt that "limits" the steering right? yeah, it can do that if you crank it far and hard enough... it'll catch. mine did that but came off. least its working right? mine's actually worn, on the cap part. need to replace it with something "new"
knew exactly what it was soon as you described the issue..... however, you should not run the bolts all the way down to unlimit the steering.... the reason for limiting the steering is it WILL give you more steering angle but you also run the risk of over-stretching the rubber brake lines and possibly popping them free...... this would be bad so........ check and make sure that at full lock it has no tension on the lines. even if it has a little tension the steering still has more give when moving so this will give even further stress to the lines.
and id imagine a larger rim diameter or the wheels not being so wide would help. spacers or less offset.
the wheels werent touching. turns out the lower b/j loosened up. i told him to check it like a week ago. its all good now. and he just picked up a set of maxima 6 spoke (the round spokes) 17's for $50. we're gonna paint them like mine
