I just bought a 92 extracab with a 22RE and an auto trans, my first auto in over 20 years. When I put the truck in reverse It shudders when backing up, when I shift into drive no shudder. It drives fine except for the shudder in reverse. I am thinking it could have a broken motor mount. I am going to check the motor mounts tomorrow. Any other ideas what it could be? Thanks Robb
I don't think it is the motor mounts but it is very easy to check. With the truck in drive and your foot ON the brake, hit the throttle. As you do this have someone standing beside the truck to see what kind of movement is in the motor.
I think mine shudders when the idle is somewhat high. Not sure, mine isn't that rough compared to the way you described yours Haha. good luck with all
I asked the guy that helps me do the mechanical work on my Toyota he suggested changing the motor mounts too...Im glad to hear that you got it fixed. I forgot all about this thread lol.
sounds good to me! i might invest in replacing my motor mounts also... the truck itself shakes even at idle
Mine did too and also at startup. My truck is so smooth now it's like a different truck. I paid $220 bucks at Toyota. Right after I ordered the ones form Toyota I remembered LC Engineering. LC has the stock mounts for $155.00 and they also make Urethane ones for $99.00 each. I think I will put the urethane ones in my 4runner.
