I've been thinking about this decision for quite sometime, and now that i recently got laid off. I've narrowed it down to the airforce or marines. Im just wondering what to specialize in. Id prefer to be in the AC all day doing computer stuff or something. I Dont really want to go into combat. Im 20 years old, i just got layed off from the chevron refinery. As of know i dont see my life going anywhere. All i have is my diploma no further education. what are my options? any advice suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
My homeboy joined the marines about a year and a half ago now and he is a base officer in japan and he's part of the k9 unit.... but if you like to sit in ac all day probably wouldn't go with marines he said bootcamp was absolute hell... I don't have any personal knowledge but I'm just goin off what he's told me
hey, im currently in the marines and just extened for another 3 yrs. If you want AC, then ur better off joining the Air Force. Marines are ground pounders and all MOSs deal with being outside in one form or another. Im not trying to say anything bad about any other branch, im just answering your statement. If you want to talk more just PM me.
Im 21, and eyeballing the Air-Force. I would absolutly love going to Germany. It has always interested me. I only have a 2 year degree. A 4 year will get you in made, as a possible officer. One of these days Ill check it out. I tried to find a recruiter months ago in houston, but they all rolled up shop. Maybe there full at the moment. It wouldnt surprise me will all the unemployment nationwide. My good friend was in the Marines before we went to school together. From what he told me, its tough. But he got his school paid for and money to spare with his G.I. bill. He drove a truck in Iraq, and drove between base's. I wouldnt want to do it. Hope it helps
i researched the air force its kinda lame unless you can get in as an officer. I was in njrotc in highschool learned i didnt like the navy so thats out for sure. whats a good mos? non combat wise. i mean im ready to fight but only if i have to.
wtf is mos.. and i was in jrotc.. lol.. well also from what i have learned, you don't wanna do the marines.. my rotc instructor told me that they are the FIRST ones deployed into combat.. F_CK THAT SH_T!!! lol.. so that's why i stuck with automotive technology.. hehe..
I was in the Marines for 5 years, went to Afghan and Iraq..I recently joined back but into the reserves..you can't compare the two there is a night and day difference, your going from one extreme to the other..You can get a desk job in the Marines but you have to score high enough plus it has to be open for you to get it, same for the air force..if you don't wanna see combat your choice is clear, Air Force..although some Airmen do deploy to combat zones.. boot camp for air force is like 6 weeks i think..marines is 13..boot camp is not hard(all of the time) trust me you will tell yourself probably more than once "what the hell did i get myself into?" lol but once you graduate you will have a respect and sense of accomplishment and pride you will not get from the Air Force, not to knock them or anything...But they don't say "the few and the proud" for nothing, you feel me?
MOS means military occupation specialty. in other words your job in the military, i am a 3521- mechanic and a 3538- license examiner. joey, how u feel about the reserves? i know a few that went reserves after being active duty and most of them cant stand it. me i went reserve first and now i am active reserve and getting ready to pcs next month
I am currently in the Army National Guard. I was in the infantry as enlisted for 6 years went to college during that time and now I am a 1LT. If you aren't looking into getting deployed I would first suggest the Coast Guard. I have a couple buddies in active duty and they love it. You will always be on the coast of the US including Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Guam my home town. You could get into electronics or AC. Just a thought though. So I would suggest Coast Guard as first choice and Air Force as the second choice.
