Alright I still have the truck, tax season will be here shortly and I (cross my fingers) should be filing and getting returns from 3 different jobs. With that I can A. Rebuild the 22r, I have a good bottom end in my room minus the block. B. I can pick up a 2jzge(non turbo) with harness from a friend for 150 The 2nd option is cheaper(maybe, at 1st at least) but can I use my auto trans with it(my truck has a Borg Warner rebuilt toy trans and it shifts damn good) plus my daily and my 85 celica are manual so i want one cruiser. How hard would a 2jzge be to wire up? I have a carbed truck so not much wiring to start with. Last thing is my roommate says I should just carb the 2j but that's easier than it sounds. Someone shed some light on this plz
If the 2jz is not carbed (and it's not) then don't try and carb it. It's built for an ecu so keep it that way. You said you had the harness? That include the computer and all wiring? I'm in the process of doing a 1uz swap in mine. I bought a running donor car and stripped everything out. The thought process is just to put it all back into the truck but I know it will be a bit more challenging then that. What do you plan of doing with your truck? You wanting a track truck or just a cruiser? If your not going to race the truck i would just rebuild the 22r. Would be cheaper long run
I want my cake and to eat it too but I'm on a budget cause I have 2 projects and a daily that needs some minor love. I want good gas milage and power. I figured that engine hauling a lighter vehicle being non turbo would be a good combo. Plus I have this strange love for inline 6's. I'd leave it injected, mostly stock, just an intake and header. Truck has a 2.5 exaust I can work with. I'm going to go look at the motor again and see what it has. My biggest hurdle other than wiring is will it work with the 4speed auto in my truck
What's the 2jz have? My advice is get the same tranny it had and use that. Most likely the harness will be set for that tranny.
Engine got sold, ima make plans to Frankenstein 2 or the 22r's I have laying around to make 1 good one.
A JZ swap is pretty involved. Id stick with a 22r. Especially if its auto. If I swapped an auto, id run the one to the new motor as its probably bigger and possibly a 5 speed auto vs 4; that I can't confirm as I'm a manual guy all the way. I hate automatics. I've broke tons of them in all sorts of rigs, only blown to 1 stick trans and that was my W50 in the 78, but I think it was low on oil.
Reason I was gonna use the auto cause its rebuilt with Borg Warner parts by the p.o shifts better than any auto I've ever driven. If it blew I have a spare w58. I was going to send the harness off to tweaked performace and as far as moving/welding the motor mounts I can do that and I have a load of other tools at my disposal I can use. I found a na jz write up for a 1st gen celica and was going to use that as a guideline. I'm sure ill swap something else in the truck later down the road but ill just rebuild my 22r that's in the truck (bhg and shot rings) using a good rotating assembly out of a rusty short block I have
