Does anyone know how low you can go in the front before the front ball joint/ joints will lock up? i was just curious about this since i C notched my rear and put a 3inch block back there along with my drop leafs and now going to tackle the front ...im thinkin ill have to tub the firewall just to play it safe but not positive yet. i already have 2 inch spindles + torsions cranked down..im thinkin ill just crank them down a bit more. unless getting drop arms is more practicle. Can you run both spindles and drop arms? BTW im running 17's if that matters any...
Here is how my 91 sits & it just lowered. I did cut some of the inner fender well out so the tires wouldnt rub, but it turns just fine & Ive got no problems with the balljoints or steering locking up!
dude that is sittin nice! can i ask what your running for the rear and also if you just cranked the torsions or what?..... sweet ride man!
Yes I also would like to know your suspension setup and size of rims etc. What are you doing? Sleeping!? Let's get a post up ASAP hahaha
Ok...here is what Ive got done to the front. Im running a set of DJM 3-inch lower control arms with drop shocks & "reset" torsion bars. Basically I turned the torsion bars all the way down, took the arms off & reset them higher. That way when you put the bolts back in & turn them up the arms sit above the crossmember & you dont tear them up. As for the rear Ive got 4-inch angle blocks, mono-leaf, Gabriel airshocks & a small c-notch! My rims are 17x7 Motegi M7s with 205/40-17 tires. To be as low as it is the truck rides very well...oh & I did have to cut out some the inner fenderwells in the front so the tires would have more travel. Ive got pics of my set up-front & rear posted in different threads on here if you want to see what I did. If you have anymore questions then feel free to ask.
with 225 40 18 tires the ball joints on my yota just start to get tight when the front crossmember under the engine touches the ground, and that is without drop spindles.
Here a few...sorry for the low quality. Im going to take my truck to work one day & put it on the lift, that way I can can get some better pics. raised front leaf spring hanger mounts... 4-inch angle block, mono-leaf, c-notch & air shocks... crappy pic of the c-notch...
smc thanks for the info! u didnt have to tub the firewall correct? i guess it would depend on tire size too? sounds like the whole "reseting" the torsions is kind of a pain. or was it fairly easy? i was hoping to just crank mine down more and not get to far off on alignment..dont want to spend $ on lower control arms if i dont have too although i figured if you ran a 5 inch drop with just control arms and spindles if this is possible, you could actually keep your torsions some what in there stock location..maybe a little cranking down what do you guys think? i think that would help with ride quality
Must be some close? I dropped mine 3 in the back and it is all ready close. And with the mono leaf in the back is it a aftermarket leaf for the truck or is it just one single stock leaf??
Its close, but the driveshaft doesnt rub nor does the gas tank hit anything...so thats good enough for me & as for the psi in the shocks Ill have to check on that for you. I pump them up tomorrow & see how much it takes to get them at a good ride height! Oh & my leaf springs are factory 4x4 units.
I want to go just as low as smctoy on my 92 reg cab. I've noticed I think I need to noch the crossmember at the back of the cab. Will I have to notch the floor also? I don't mind cause I'll eventually bag it, but trying to see whats all I'm facing. Thanks, Ryan
