OK I brought my 93 to three differant places for a "free" check. Each one gave me a differant reason why the A/C is out-compressor, leak, and electrical. The system gets power when I checked using a 12 volt tester and has enough freon per two of the places. I can "hot wire" the compressor and it turns fine but no cold air. The line hooked to the receiver/drier freezes up. Do you guys think the compressor isn't strong enough to push the air through? Oh yeah, I have replaced the expansion valve.
When you start the truck, and turn the AC on does the compressor start to cycle. Does the clutch engage? If so i and ur lines are frosting over i would make sure your condenser isnt plugged. If you have no air flow across the condensor you will have no AC. Take a look.
The compressor dosn't turn on- I can get it to start with a fused wire straight to the possitive on the battery. How can I check if the condenser if it is clogged? It was blowing cool air now the compressor won't start- should I put more freon in even though the shop says the level is good.
if the line is freezing up then the compressor is working. are you saying that the blower motor for air isn't working? (no air coming from vents)
The blower motor works. I can turn on the compressor by adding a wire straight from compressor to the possitive battery terminal. The compressor won't turn on by pressing the A/C button but power does go through the wire.
if the clutch on the pump wont enguage when you turn your ac on the compressor is bad, if the clutch is enguaging but no cold ait check for leaks in the system( they sell a kit at the parts ouse to test for leaks) also check the blowermotor assembly and condensor(make sure the fins are straight and not filled with bugs'n dirt
Messed around with the A/C some today. The compressor cycles through on and off when I turn the A/C on. I look at the sight glass and see bubbles surging as the compressor cycles- maybe not enough freon? The compressor ran before but it got very hot- boiling water hot. Maybe from too much high side pressure? One guy told me that it has a brass condensor and it should be aluminum because it cools better.
no ac what does your guages say??? sounds like a low preasure switch or low freon id check both since you can jump the compressor it tells me you have a problem with the low side !! take a piece of wire and jump the low preasure switch if it works check your freon level make sure the ground wire at the back of your switch in the cab is tight and all fuses are ok with a test light but i think its low freon or the low side switch ,,,
Compressor started to work today but then it started to smoke and smell like burning wires then freon started to leak out of it I guess it's dead and it is time to start over. Thanks for everyones input.
