my alternator belt keeps on coming off (like, flips itself upsidedown...)

I have tried my best to pull back the alternator and make the belt tight, but it seems that it comes off either way!

I went to the stealership this morning and the only alt/fan belt they can get me was a 91 belt...

    it was too damn long.

So today.... my belt came off 3 different times.

3rd time it decides to BREAK.

So anyway, in the past 4 days it came loose 5 times. came loose as in flipping over and off the pulleys

and after the 5th time in total, i looked and the powersteering belt looks as if it wants to flip also.

When i get a belt in, I'll try and verify if my crank pulley is straight. from what i see right now, its pretty good.

The previous times when i had to put the belts back on, the pulleys all looked pretty good!

I think the alt belt snapping really hard might've impacted the power steering belt. Might be why the old alt belt is ripped.

I have a question, are your belts teethed? I'm being sent a OEM factory belt and the picture has no teeth.

but this belt lasted me at least 5k miles. We'll see my problem., wish me luck...

From what I know, if the belt is "flipping" in it's place and flying off it is usually do to the alignment of the belt to ALL of the pulleys. If for whatever reason the belt isn't following the same line from the top to the bottom, it will roll away from the rest of the pulleys and come off or tear. Tension of the belt, alone, will not cause it to roll and fly off. A super loose belt will slip and squeal, but as long as its aligned it will move in the same direction. The belts with teeth in them(Duralast, Gates, Goodyear) are designed that way to be quieter and fit different sized pulleys on different cars. When you walk in to a parts store, any particular belt may fit several different applications from our Toyota's to Chevrolet's.

Try use string and run it like its a belt maybe. See if anything looks crooked. Or start from a fixed point and use the string as a straight edge to the next pulley to see if its straight.
Id say use lasers and **** like on OCC to see whats crooked but i dunno how you would get access to that.
    Good luck man

I sent an email to engnbldr, "premiere 22RE builder of all times!"\
I'll see what he says. other than that, i've tried eyeballing it... no major mis alignment
