Spent a whole day polishing and waxing my truck. Decide to go drive since I was bored. My 7.5" differential blew. Alotta abuse. 183,586 miles on it. ~2am when it happened, I was out in some country side road, pavement. Driving along and rear end left side just locked up. tried reversing and see if i could get home that way. nope. I think the pinion gear or something finally let go. sigh... anyway, $68 later, tow truck gets me home and drops the truck off in my driveway. It was cold and windy. at least engine ran to keep me heated. Alright guys, where the *bleep* do I get a differential? gunna be opening the third member case later. differential, whole assembly, whatever. lemme know what you guys have. 8" would be neat, as long this **** bolts up. I just want my truck running...
well........ 8" is gonna require you to swap the WHOLE axle assembly but it'll all bolt up if you can find one out your way. im guessing you know how to pull your third right? undo the brake lines at the back of the drum, undo the 4 retaining bolts for the axle, do this to both sides, yank em out, unbolt all the driveshaft bolts from the flange, place the drive shaft aside, pull all the third member bolts and yank that sucker outta there and see what let go. you can probably find a 7.5 third just about anywhere for decently cheap. any 7.5 3rd from any 2wd pickup from years 79 all the way through the tacomas up till 04 will drop in. only thing is there will be different gear ratios but all relatively within the gearing you need for it.
Yeah, I'm aware of it. Finding one would be tough... Do you think ~$50 for a 7.5" rear end is good? I'll be more than happy with just the 7.5". Hell, if there's not too much collateral damage, I think replacing the internals would be good. I have a good feeling the spider gears blew. The axle housing didn't go out.
Do yourself a favor and put vacuum caps on the open brake lines when you pull them. No sense in bleeding the system completely when you can just bleed the wheel cylinders. If you can find a V6 rig it'll have an 8" axle. The 7.5" is super easy to find too, I just picked up a rolling chassis and I'm scrapping the axle because its not worth keeping around to me.
I have a 7.5" 3rd ready to go... I believe it's a 3:30 or 3:52 ratio but, it's gonna cost you to ship it coz its pretty heavy... I'm guessing around 25-50 lbs... Let me know
That sucks! Not to be rude....but I told ya you should start baby'ing the truck, they're not sports cars. Quit tryin to keep up with your tuner friends.
Drove to school with the Odyssey, not happy. Picked up my friend's bicycle so I can ride. the 3.5L V6's economy isn't friendly. Both would be nice, but in the meanwhile, I need to get around. Once affordable, IRS with coils will be done. Dual coils anyone? Vacuum caps will definitely be on. But I might flush out the brakes with new fluids in the future. they need some loving. Correct order is DR,PR,PF,DF? I've checked Craigslist and the best I can find is 7.5" whole axle assembly for $175. It's U-pull and if I just take whatever I need (internals), it'd be less. How much do you think it'd be? 67207 If it's affordable, I'd get it from you. What year? Rear ends. It's amazing what a quality piece they can be. (especially with me driving) Yes it does! Everything was fine... truck ran well, smooth, consistent. I was happy with the way it was. Hell, it was looking CLEEAAANNN! Yeah, no rudeness, I did drive the truck hard. Toyota built the Hilux's perfectly. They just should've left them all with 8" diffs. I'll be taking my time. I'm thinking tomorrow I will get the truck into the garage, drop driveshaft, and check out the diff internals.. It's gunna be a helluva time.
pm me your exact year, make model options, engine and every other detail of your truck and i'll get back to you with a price for the diff if you're interested. I can aquire a used one for a reasonable price. I can also help you with the install if your not familiar. This will be for a complete diff, plug and play. I should be able to talk to my guy tomorrow about it so as soon as you send me some info we can get the ball rolling. Aaron The pm should include Year, make, model,, engine, trans, every thing as to get you the right part and price.
^if its originally a 4 speed trans then chances are it is... I havent got around to weighing the 3rd i have so, I wouldnt know what to quote you for shipping...
iv got a stock 3rd from my old 7.5 you can have for $50+shipping. doing a quick calculation on ups.com a 60# box will cost 58.70 to ship from ca to ks. nothing wrong with it i just took it out and replaced it with a better geared 3rd with a LSD. (no i dont have the LSD anymore) if you interested i can take it to ups tomorrow and get an actual quote cause i dont know the actual weight of the 3rd.
