Driving through the backwoods of West Virginia the other weekend I realized that my headlights weren't that bright (then again neither am I ). Tried to switch them out today (the old ones obviously needed replacing). However the new ones weren't that bright. Damn. Were toyotas of the 90's paltry in the headlight department or is something else wrong. One of the main reasons I bought this truck was to hit the woods etc. I will definetly need something brighter (yet easy to install). PS why the hell did toyota make the front grill out of plastic, and make it such a bitch to take out?

The plastic is so brittle after 16 years that it crumbled in some spots.

Easiest removal of the grille is to slightly remove the front bumper (or the whole thing) and then go for the plastic clips from there. also removing the corner lights.

but plenty of offroading 4WD guys on another forum got it down to where they can do it without removing the grille

I also suggest the ebay H4 housings and bulbs. As well as wiring the headlights on relays. Its fairly simple if you're good with wiring. It eliminates most of the voltage drop to the bulb. So they get more power and are brighter. I would start there, and upgrade if it isn't enough for you. There are writeups on the 4wd sites. And I used to be good at swapping lights on a 92 2wd with the grille in.
