ok so i could find any good write ups on toyota minis to do this so heres mine
So i did this swap to my friends 89 22r 4spd 1st i found a 4runner with the cluster and was a 4 cylinder so no need for me to adjust the tach.
    things you will need......
-16 guage wire walmart has it
    - a connector to hook up the wire for the tach to work
-the oil pressure switch/sender LOOKS LIKE THE ONE ONE THE RIGHT
    [IMG]
ok so the obvious on these trucks u have to literlly take apart the whole dash to get to the cluster with that being said once you at the cluster u can begin to run the wire for the tach on

    - in some cases you might get lucky and have your truck prewire unfortunate for my friend we had to run the wire
-i had to the the wire all the way from the diagnosis plug wire it to the (-ig)
i used a flat insert connector to hook it up then made a whole on the lil rubber cap the capped it before
    [IMG]
ok NOT MY PICTURE VVV but this was what helped me do this swap so in this picture we have both speedometers 1 cable driven and the electric one and where to hook up the wire coming from the diagnosis plug
    [IMG]
-NOTE the blue plug in your truck is where u will be running the wire too
both will work the screw or the plug i inserted it with the plug looks better
you can do it to one or thee other but test everything before u put it back together just incase some went wrong
WITH THAT BEING DONE THE END RESULT SHOULD BE THIS VVVV
    [IMG]
BUT BEFORE GOING OUT TO THE YARDS LOOKING FOR A CLUSTER MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE A CABLE DRIVEN CLUSTER OR ELECTRIC CLUSTER

HOPEFULLY THIS HELPS SOME OF YOU WITH WHO WANT TO DO THIS SWAP ANY ?S FEEL FREE TO ASK ME DIRECTLY OR ASK ON THIS THREAD GOOD LUCK:waytogo:

Easy, you just adjust a potentiometer on the tach on the cluster. Check the value with an ohm meter. The #'s are somewhere on this site. Thats what I used, mine works great!

    Is the oil pressure sender/switch for a 4 cylinder or a 6?

they are all the same for a 4 or 6. The tach is the only thing thats different.

Find a tool similar to a dental pick. Locate the cogs at the sides of the numbers, underneith the face, then simple turn the numbers till you have your true millage. just be gentle with everything and work in a well lit area with steady hands. This is one project that cannot be done, while enjoying the moonshine.

I did not know this... For just about each car that I have owned I have always gone to their respective forums and I owe it to the forums to be educated. :clapping:

On my odometer thing, I had to pull out this set of "black fingers" they held the drums in place. Pulled it out and I could easily set it to whatever.

I found a better way to change the mileage on the cluster and it took me a total of 22 minutes and a steady patient hand.
I also posted it on my build thread... When my cluster went bad i was at 167,474k miles and now the new speedo cluster reads 168,000 k miles... It was simple to do

    Oye Flaco,

    The above statements are incorrectomundo.
If you trace the filament line from the "P" screw it goes up to position #7 on the blue personality plug connector. There is no wire in position #7 so hooking it up directly wont do anything to move the Tachometer.

Just take a closer and you will see that P does not go to #6

However if you do connect the wire directly to screw "P" the tach will work

im having a hard time locating the answer to my problem..

I put in an SR5 cluster in my '93 Hilux
The tach is adjusted via potentiometer to read rpm correctly
The speedo wouldnt work at first until i drove for about two miles and now it is fine.
I rolled the miles to match my actual mileage using the following link:
YotaTech Forums - View Single Post - SR5 Gauge Cluster Swap - How-to, with pics!

The odomoter and Trip meter are not moving.. Nor advancing and i cant figure out why.

A local speedometer shop wants $125.00 to $160.00 to fix it which i think is a bit much.

The VSS has been replaced a while back so its not that.

    Any suggestions ?

correct the "P" labeled marking behind the cluster is a better solution to go to for the rpms to work i had it set up the other route and would loose my rpm signal on my 87 using a round eye connector to the "P" labeled screw would be the best route to go insuring the rpm tachometer will work fine
