I bought a 350. Small block that im building but what rear end can I put? Any help would be great thanks
one the guys here has a 8" rear with a 302 pushing 300hp. truck does fine with it. i dont believe there would be much need for a bigger rear end unless you are gonna be racing it every weekend.... even then. i plan on doing the same setup. chevy 350, mild build on the motor and run a toyota 8" rear end. they can be commonly found on 4 speed trucks. i forget what the axle code is but you can also tell a 8" by the 4 casting marks on each center of the axles.
Is it the same length of the stock axle or would I have to cut part of it out? Im just gonna use the truck for track purposes
not sure if it will hold that much power considering they engineered it for 160 hp v6 motor. for that much power you may need to look into a 9" rear with well built internals. if thats the case then it will likely need to be built anyways and just fabricate your mounting points for whatever suspension you will be running out back be it leaf or coils.......... and given that much power, i would highly consider looking into a strong 4 link system and coilovers. there are a couple of guys on here running a few high power engines including supra motors but not sure on what power they are turning out. i do know they have some very well built rear ends to hold the power though........ look in the projects section and look up supre for your search.
You are going to want a Ford 9" or GM 12 bolt or similar if your looking at the 500+ range. oh and at least 3 link if not 4 link.
Check out this build. http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/build-up-project-threads-25/rajzswap-official-build-thread-6358/ It is my truck but this is all what the guy I bought it from has done. It has a 8.8 from a 2000 explorer. My truck is is pushing the 450hp range at 18 psi and it works perfectly.
im running a ford 9 inch with a few mods to it. im higher then 500hp though. If you are going to be running 350ish hp a stock gm 10 or 12 will work ( but the bolt pattern will be different front to rear ) a stock 9 inch or if you dont beat on it a yota 8 inch should hold. the ford and yota rear ends have the same bolt pattern.
