The bed on my 86 has two little hooks above the tail light where the latches for the tail gate would lock on to. Does this mean I can ONLY use that style tail gate, or is there a way to make the center handle style gate work?

 

Could get another bed, or do a lot of fab work to make one work. But as for a strait bolt up no.

 

I went the opposite way.I took a latched tail gate and moded it to my bed with no hooks. I think all you would have to do is shave off thr hookz and you need the two things that the locks sit in.let me take a pic of mine i'll get back to you in a bit.
