looking at buying a 85 2wd short box off the CL... i was curious if it has the 8" rearend in it or not. (since this is going to be a donor for a sbc, just one less thing i have to switch later) it has the 22r in it with the sludgeobmatic behind it... i know they have the 8" when they are 4 speeds... and i cant look at the truck since it is 3.5 hrs away so i was just wondering if anyone knew off the top of thier head. thanks
there should be a plack stamped on the firewall (i think) or on the driver's side door jam that will tell u the trans type, color code, n rear end. its just a matter of finding the chart that lists the code n how to read it. but yes, usually they came with the 8in rear end, some had 7.5in. also it would provide the actual ratio. example = "G02A" G-02-A i think thats how it reads.
