I read through some of the other interesting builds and thought I'd pass along a link to my little project. It's a 1984 x-tra cab that I bought new (yeah I'm old) and after putting on 220,000 or so miles, I decided it was time to give it a make over. The truck was still running great at the time - just some valve noise at idle, but the oil level barely dropped between 5,000 mile oil changes. The 22R was a good engine, but I wanted a little more... I finished the project about 2 1/2 years ago, so there's now a few nicks and some small dents - but it's running well and it's great to drive. It may be a bit old school for some on the forum, but I'm old school... Some of the key points: Engine, 5-Spd Trans, and Steering Rack from 97 Camaro V6 (3800 Series II) Gauge cluster from the Camaro transplanted into dash (a must for speedo, tach...) Interior door panels, mirrors, power windows from 88 4 runner Seats from SR-5 truck reupholstered in leather Custom made center console Custom built headers and exhaust A number of other customized parts and wiring to make it all work (and it does all work) This is my first major undertaking of this nature and I did all the work myself - except for the custom built drive-shaft and ceramic coating applied to the headers. The link is to a posting my son made on the Subaru Forum he belongs to (I had no idea he posted this - he told me after the comments came in). I was surprised and pleased to see the positive response from the Subaru guys and I thought the Toyota mini truck guys might like to take a look. (Only took me 2 years to get around to posting this) Here's the link: My dads project - Subaru Impreza GC8 & RS Forum & Community: RS25.com
Sweet! Trucks probably darn quick too. I had a GM 3800 in a Bonneville and the engine are great. Should make that truck damn quick.
