Hi, I'm new to the forum and Toyota trucks as well. I am about to purchase a 1982 pickup and plan to do the round headlight conversion and I'd love to have the double latch tailgate as well, but I am unsure if I can simply find some hooks, latches and tailgate off another truck and put them on mine easily. Do the hooks for the latches come off or am I stuck with the single latch?

I searched but couldn't find the answer to this question.

The latches are held on by a single 10" bolt. The hooks seem to be welded to the bed, so if ur bed already has the hooks then you could just buy the latches or go to a junk yard and find a pair.
