Hey all ive been lurking around this site for a while now, but finally picked up a truck. its a 1978 HiLux longbed sr5. but anyway the front suspension has me cornfused a little. i want to drop it 2-3 inches in the front, my question is : whats the best way to go about it? i didnt wanna climb under and cut some springs before i asked the experts.

i already got my 3'' blocks set aside for the rear, and future plans for a c-notch, just need some advice on the front.

    thanks guys

pretty much the only way to lower the front is to cut the springs if it does have coils which it should if its a 78

well its a 77 body on a 78 chassis, and no part of it is a 79. its a 77, but i was referring to the suspension so i figured i would refer to it as a 78. i was almost positive there was no change between the years, but hell i was just playing it safe. hahaha sorry for the inconsistent post.

looks like ima cut me some spring here! pics soon. soon as i can peel off the hideous stickers the previous owners had.

for 3" take about 1-1/2 to 2 turns off the top. my 78 has over 3 turns cut off and you can see where it sits :D i have about the lowest static here. sd yota, smc and another guy have newer trucks pretty low too. 77 yoter is dumped too. me and him both have 20/22r hybrids. check out our build threads.

hhahaha byker, not to sound creepy but ive been a silent fan of yours for a while now.i dig your status as the lowest static, and like that its the same bodystyle as mine. very motivating. ha.

i might have to go lower than three inches if im going to be around here for any amount of time. im thinkin about notching it while i have the bed off. just so its easier to slam later.

do you have a six-sevenish drop?

hahaha...I have about a 8-9" front, and a measured 7" rear. Plus 1 size shorter rears, and 2 sizes shorter fronts for tires. 195/65/14 and 195/70/14s. If you go more than a few inches, you may have to get shorter tires, roll the front fenders, or hammer the inner fenders. If you get to that point, you'll need to move a few things on the inner fenders so there aren't bolt heads aiming at the tire thread through the fender. I suggest a notch for sure. But don't go too much unless you plan to also have a hole in the bed. More than about a 2" deep notch, and when you bottom out on it the rear end will hit the bed floor.

well for the time being my truck is still at the "farm truck" stage in its life, so im read to start hacking at it. a buddie of mine has a matching truck he bought the day after, same year and color, but with a 22re swap. so i do imagine we will be racing to see who can get theirs the lowest, the quickest so this thing will be scraping pavement soon. i shall go take some pics right now just to show you all the before

Does anyone know where to get a front bumper
all the u pull its are combed over in WA thanks to you guys!
i found this new one for 53. im thinking about springing for it
