Hey, so I thought the throw-out bearing was bad and as it turns out- not. So there is a noticeable rattle that increases with throttle... lifters? valves? it seems like a lighter almost tinny sound maybe popcan like, not the deep knocking of death in the lower end. like I said... sounds like a throw-out bearing... runs fine. starts right up. totally stock truck. 200,000mi. (od says 92,576, guessing 192,xxx) Suggestions?
If for some reason it has enough slack or a guide broke its probably slapping around. My old nissan had an annoying tick sold it before i got to fix it. Pull the valve cover and see if thats the problem
Yup pull the valve cover. Use ain't flat screw driver to reach down and apply tension to the chain. If its floppy plan to swap it out. Also look for loose valves. You should actually set them, sometimes its just a noisy valve. Could also be an exhaust gasket near the motor ticking in a similar sound.
Check/set the valve lash first. Also mine had a "tick" when I got it, the exhaust manifold gasket was toasted from a leaking vc gasket
So the rattle turned out to be a large hole in my exhaust manifold, pushing against the aluminum cover. Anybody have a non emissions 20R exhaust manifold for a good price? My plan is to geta header soon, but I'm not in a position to change the whole exhaust right now... thanks for the help!
