    Hello,

Been working on a 71 hilux for a while and thought I say hi. I have a little restoration / fab shop and I want a cool shop truck to haul stuff around in. I found it on Ebay a few months ago and have been working on it since.

Here is what it looked like when I drug it home.

That looks really good now. Great starting point. I may have some odds and ends from 2nd gens that will work for yours. Let me know if ya need parts.

Wheels are 14" not sure of the offset...I plan on these being temp until I can find some nice replacements.

Thanks for all the comments...looking forward to getting this thing on the road.

right now i'm trying to find all the stuff that the truck is missing. I have a few WTB ads in the classifieds

I like the retro time warp effect of the OEM fender turn signals, but have you thought about something more sleek and classy looking? I was always a fan of the 60s/70s dodges that had a similar blinker on the fender. Only they aimed at the driver, they weren't on the dash. You could find them repro on eBay and run them facing forward. There were a few design styles.

As for the rest, keep it simple. Maybe some smaller mirrors, I like the 67+ VW style. That's what I run.

I see a few missing parts. No grille corners, or center it seems. No mirrors. No dash pad. No brake/clutch rubber pads. No gas cap.

I have lots of pedal pads, if anybody can confirm they are the same as 2nd gen or other Toyotas ill find you a set in my parts pile. Makes driving feel more safe I think. I also have some gas caps if you need one. And a TEQ logo oil filler cap.

I have lots of other slider knobs for the heater too. Some from 3rd gen hilux with a metal stripe, some from 70s fords that are all metal. Check out my dash setup in the last pages of my build to get a better idea.

And what state are you in? I'm sure there's local members around ya some where if ya need a hand. We're spread across the whole planet it seems. :D

I scored a couple brand new chervon Mirrors (minus the frames) So I am going with those.

I have gas cap from a Datsun that is working for now...would like to find a OEM.

I am pretty open to turn signals..but I'd like originals if can find them. I will swap a different drive train in to future (I am actually thinking a JDM 4cyl Diesel). So I am not so concerned with complete originality if I cannot find OEM parts.

I am Phoenix (Surprise) Arizona...anyone Local with parts?

Exactly. Once you do a starter drop (3-4") you will still have a tiny bit of wheel gap and want to go lower. Then you'll wanna go an inch or three lower. My advice is start with a 5/4" combo. Then run about a 24.5" front tire, 25" rear. It'll look and handle alot better but still clear obstacles. I am super low and a LONGBED and rarely have any problems. Just be aware of lot entrances.

Check out the Landcruiser turn signal housings. I think they must be very similar. The stand might need tweeking because the Landcruiser fender is slanted at the turn signal mount, but the lenses/housing look identical to me!

Nice ride! Low profile tire combos need a lower stance!

I was planning on at least a 3-4" drop. I still want to be able to put a engine or some weight in the back. I have thought about the Landcruiser turn-signals....If i can't find a set of OEM's then that is probably the route I'll go.

Both of my door had quite a bit of sag and there was a tear in the metal above the top door hinge. I welded the tear and they are back to where they are supposed to be.....anyone else have this problem?

My 88 dodge had the same problem with the hinge ripping the door metal off. I swapped doors. Good tip to watch for scouting the old trucks.

Doesn't sound like a problem then...just a result of the life that the truck had.

Wasn't too hard to fix as i just had to pop the doors off and weld one seam
