71 Hilux Transmission

    Random question. How does a guy check the transmission oil on the 71 hilux? Ive looked around for a dip stick but don't see one.

    Take off the upper fill bolt and stick your finger in! Yes that is exactly how Toyota describes it in their manual. There are two bolts one on the bottom to drain it and one higher up to fill it, remove the upper and reach in with your digit, you should be able to feel the oil right below the edge of the threads. If not fill it up to there. If you're not sure about when the juice was changed last I would drain it first and go with all fresh hypoid oil.

    make sure the top is not strip or super rusted on first before doing the bottom
