    Hi
Anyone know how to identify what year a 5R motor was made?

the earliest versions of the 5R had timing gears, the early versions of them had square inlet and exhaust ports, square ports 1968, rounded ports 1969 and timing chain 1970. the timing chain versions become more tricky to identify and it helps to know what it was out of and what it dose and dose not have, as it can be things such as emission control, heater fittings, fan if plastic or steel, how the oil filler cap fits if it pushes or screws on and so on

i am unsure of the sump arrangement as the full stout the engine sits over the front beam axle where in the dyna/coaster the engine sits behind the axle and the coaster/dyna sumps can hit the axle.
the coaster/dyna sump is full size, the front beam axle stout only has the front section and i think that a lite stout only has the rear section, the sump might need to be cut to fit and the oil pickup changed as well and the engine mounts might just be slightly different to a 2R engine

Thanks for that Whysmee..So its not just a straight forward swap.
Do you know if the RK43 Stout lite gearbox is the same as the RK101 Full stouts gearbox ?

the gear box/transmissions are a R40, R as in R engine 40 is from the RK40 they first appear in that was the first of lite stout that started production late 1962, previous RK45 stouts had a different gearbox/transmission.
everything light commercial with an R engine as of 1963 had a R40 with the hand brake, park brake, E brake on the gearbox/transmission and not on the the rear axle like cars. the R40 was used up until late 1976 so dyna, toyoace and coaster, after 1976 only the stouts still had the R40 transmission until 1979 and the RK110 onwards had floor shift 4 and later 5 speeds that as of yet i do not know what they are nor what year exactly the YK110 stouts ceased production 1998? is the latest possible date as the hilux as of 2000 is still sold as the stout II in certain south american countries
